NH Library Christmas letter – 2022

December, 2022

Dear Members and Friends,

As the 126th year of our library comes to a close, I would like to update you on our 125th Anniversary Capital Campaign.  I am very pleased to tell you that we met our goal of $125,000 in November.  At our November board meeting, I told the board that we were only $5000 short of our campaign goal and that I felt confident that we would succeed eventually. As I was speaking, our Treasurer opened a letter from a lawyer telling us that one of our members who had died the previous year had bequeathed money to the library –  in the amount of $5000!

This “angel” donor was long time library member Sally Wulff from Boston who had spent almost every summer at her North Hatley home.  When I telephoned Sally’s husband, Bob to thank him and ask his permission to share this story, he did not hesitate adding that both of them loved our library very, very much and that he was thrilled with the story of Sally’s bequest.  Our sincere condolences to Bob accompany our gratitude to them both.

We were also lucky throughout 2022 to have had Lise Roy act as our Librarian while Isabelle Lebire was on maternity leave.  Isabelle will return by the end of January.  I would like to thank Lise so much for coming into this temporary role with such enthusiasm, dedication and good humour.  Not only did Lise do a great job running our day to day operations but she became a wonderful ambassador for our library, making sure that all of her friends and neighbours became members!

We also have a strong group of volunteers who work at the front desk, cover new books and perform many tasks that ‘keep the lights on’ all year long.  Many, many thanks to all of you!.

We were able to increase our book buying budgets this year so you should be seeing lots of new books on the shelves now and many more on the way in the coming months.

Thank you all for supporting our library.  We wish you a very happy holiday season and a wonderful year ahead in 2023.

On behalf of the Board,

Margot Heyerhoff, President

Capital Campaign Update

May 4TH, 2022

Dear Members and Friends,

I am very pleased to report that our Capital Campaign is very close to its goal of $125,000.  We have received over $110,000 from approximately 110 donors and we thank them so much!

However, we still have $15,000 to raise to meet our campaign goal and we still have approximately another 300 members who have not donated.

As much as we would welcome gifts from previous donors, we do not want them giving a second time.  We hope to see new donors help us reach our goal.  If you are one of these people, please consider a donation of any amount.  We hope to have an event this summer to celebrate the success of our 125th Anniversary Campaign and to thank all of our campaign donors.

It will also be a great opportunity to look through our beautiful new windows!

  With thanks in advance,

Margot Heyerhoff, President, NH Library Association

New Window Installation:

Just to let you know that the library will be closed next week, Monday May, 2 for the installation of new windows. We are hoping that will take just one week. You can leave a phone message or send an email to renew your books. Thank you for your understanding

Capital Campaign:

Feb 10, 2022

Dear Members and Friends,

– I am pleased to give you this update on our Capital Campaign –

By the end of December, 2021, we had raised over $100,000 toward our goal of $125,000.  This means that we are on the ‘home stretch’ to have a completely successful campaign.

These donations come from approximately 96 individuals, the municipalities of North Hatley and Canton de Hatley and three private foundations and we thank all of them profusely for bringing us to this exciting total.

The new windows are now ready for installation but the manufacturer is waiting for warmer weather for this work to be done.  It will be messy so the library will need to close for a few days while the windows are installed.  We will notify you when we know the closure dates.

The other work in the original building will be completed later in 2022.

We still need almost $25,000 to reach our anniversary goal and I am sure there are still many members and friends who will help us in this effort.  If you are one of them and have not given as yet, please consider a donation today.  We plan to celebrate our campaign’s success this coming summer and take that opportunity to thank you in person at the library.

Yours truly,

Margot Heyerhoff, President

Please mail or come by with your donation – 165 rue Main, North Hatley, Qc. J0B 2C0

A tax receipt will be issued.
